Connecting Hwy 80

Connecting US 80 is a photography experiment in contrast and quietude that connects working people from the Atlantic to the Pacific along US Rural Route 80, stretching from Georgia to California.

The experiment in contrast and quietude lies in the pairing of the images. By connecting with each individual, Pfister collected a tiny piece of their story. Only Pfister knows which images hold contrast and which hold quietude.

The gentleman with the pitchfork (Albert) was Pfister's first subject. After photographing him, Pfister asked him who he should photograph next. Albert directed him to a group of loggers down the road...

The direct string of connection continued all the way to California.
